Ambassador Ib Petersen

Your Excellencies

Ladies and Gentlemen

It is a great honor for me, on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Embassies to welcome you to Asia-Pacific Day 2009. I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the Frederiksberg Municipality for providing the venue and strong support for this cultural event. I am most confident that the beauty of Frederiksberg along with the friendly atmosphere, will contribute to making this event a resounding success. I would like to extend our thanks to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support which is also essential to the success of this event. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to the artists and performers who will present us a wonderful show, including folk’s songs and dance and music, creating a full environment of entertainment. There will also be individual country stands which provide handicrafts, traditional arts and national food. My thanks and appreciations also go to my colleagues from all participating embassies who worked so hard to make this event happen.

The Asia-Pacific Region, geographically widespread and home to about 60 per cent of world’s population is also proud to be one of the richest and most diverse regions in terms of history and cultural traditions. The Asia-Pacific Diplomatic Missions in Denmark launched the Asia-Pacific Day in 2006 with the primary goal to showcasing the rich and vibrant cultures of the region and enhancing exchanges with Danish People.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In recent years, the remarkable pace of growth and immense potential in the Asia-Pacific region is also making great contribution to the global prosperity and provide important drivers for future development. And we are also very happy to see that the cooperation and exchanges between Denmark and Asia-Pacific countries have been steadily enhanced in economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological fields.

The Asia-Pacific Day event has been held twice successfully. We saw big number of people attending the event. The hall was filled with colorful displays, national foods, music, laughter and people beautifully dressed in their traditional costume. The performers received big applause for their amazing show. The sense of presenting cultures of the Asia-Pacific regions and promoting the mutual understanding with Denmark has been always at the center in this cultural event which is attracting more and more people. And I am convinced that the mutual understanding and goodwill will help promote the exchange and friendship between the people of the Asia-Pacific countries and people of Denmark. Now I proudly declare the Asia-Pacific Day 2009 open.

Thank you and have a nice evening.
