On May 12, 2012, Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged congratulatory messages with his Slovenian counterpart, Danilo Turk, on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In his message, Hu said China and Slovenia have witnessed the sound development of their relations over the past 20 years. The two sides have maintained close high-level contacts and deepened political trust. Cooperation in areas such as economics and trade, culture, education, science and technology has been fruitful, Hu said. Humanities and non-governmental exchanges are increasingly active and both sides have maintained good communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, with the connotation of bilateral relations constantly enriched. After 20 years, the bilateral relationship has arrived at a new starting point and has brighter prospects for future development, he said. China stands ready to work with Slovenia in the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit to promote political mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation and map out a development path toward prosperity, Hu said.
Turk, for his part, said the 20th anniversary serves as a milestone in the development of bilateral ties as well as an opportunity for both countries and peoples to celebrate their firm friendship and close relations and decide on what steps to take to advance mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas. With the joint efforts of both sides, the goal of strengthening Slovenia-China relations will surely be realized.
On the same day, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao exchanged congratulatory messages with his Slovenian counterpart Janez Jansa.
Wen lauded the progress in bilateral relations over the past 20 years. He said China attaches great importance to the relationship and is willing to work with Slovenia based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit to enhance mutual understanding and trust and expand pragmatic cooperation so as to push the friendly cooperative ties to a new level and benefit the two peoples.
Jansa said Slovenia highly values the profound traditional friendship with China, which was based on mutual respect and common interests. The two countries have forged close ties in various fields through open political dialogues and close economic cooperation, Jansa said. He hoped bilateral ties will continue to develop in a mutually beneficial direction and be enriched continuously.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also exchanged congratulatory messages with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec.
