Central government officials will meet the Dalai Lama's private representative in the coming days, the Xinhua News Agency learned from official sources on Friday.

"In view of the requests repeatedly made by the Dalai Lama side to resume talks, the relevant department of the central government will contact and consult with the Dalai Lama's private representative in the coming days," an official said.

"The policy of the central government toward the Dalai Lama has been consistent and the door of dialogue has remained open," he said.

"It is hoped that through contact and consultation, the Dalai Lama side will take credible moves to stop activities aimed at splitting China, stop plotting and inciting violence and stop disrupting and sabotaging the Beijing Olympic Games so as to create conditions for talks," he said.

The central government has maintained that the door to consultation with the Dalai Lama is open as long as he truly gives up his pursuit of "Tibet independence".

It has reiterated the stance even after a series of secessionist activities at home and abroad following the recent riots in Tibet and adjacent provinces.

Since 2002, the Dalai Lama's personal representatives have had six meetings with high-ranking Communist Party of China officials. Since 1979, the Dalai Lama has sent more than 20 delegations to China, which included many of the Dalai Lama's close relatives, such as his sisters or brothers.

They were taken to various areas, including Tibet, Yunnan, Guangxi and Hebei, to better understand economic development and the implementation of regional autonomy for ethnic groups, according to media reports.
