Xi Jinping Meets with President Martin Schulz of European Parliament

On March 31 local time, President Xi Jinping met with European Parliament President Martin Schulz in Brussels.

Xi Jinping stressed, mutual trust is the basic premise of the China-Europe relations. Despite our different choices for development path, China and Europe share a common goal of pursuing lasting peace and prosperity. Through 100-year unremitting exploration over the modern times, the Chinese nation has chosen the socialist path with Chinese characteristics. The fast development in China proves that our development path, theoretical system and institutional model conform to the national conditions. We are determined and confident, but not complacent. Fully inclusive with great tolerance to diversity, the Chinese nation is striving for perfection with unremitting self-improvement. We are exploring with courage and making constant progress on the path of realizing the Chinese Dream. We are willing to conduct dialogues and exchanges and to enhance mutual understanding, trust and cooperation with Europe on the basis of mutual respect and equality.

Xi Jinping said, China adheres to its policy towards Europe. We are willing to not only add to luster but also provide timely help. We firmly supports European integration, and expect the European side to better understand and support the peaceful development of China and to trust the strategic orientation of China. We hope to be truly good friends with the European Union (EU) of mutual trust and common development in the multi-polar world.

Xi Jinping said, China attaches great importance to the status and role of the European Parliament, and is willing to strengthen exchanges between bilateral legislatures and political parties with the European side. Hope that the European Parliament will hold a more positive and objective view on China, participate comprehensively and deeply in China-EU cooperation, and play a positive role in promoting the China-EU relations.

Schulz said that, China is a great country that has made enormous achievements in its development. The European Parliament admires China's determination in reform and believes that the EU-China relations are facing great opportunities. To strengthen EU-China cooperation is not only important to both sides, but also to Europe-Asia cooperation and the world at large. The European Parliament supports political dialogues with China, to enhance mutual understanding and trust, and to strengthen a closer partnership.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
